Branching Out
By
Richard Furburger
When Expressway Productions was founded in 2006, it was
for the sole purpose of shooting their own short
films like "Gary and Gorilla", "Melon Snatch" and
"Runner". In 2009, Expressway Productions,
expanded its resume from short film production
company to crew agency and production service
company. They organized the productions and
provided crew for "The Fields", "Beating Hearts" and
"Good day for it". Along the way they worked
with top talents like Cloris Leachman, Hal Holbrook,
Lance Henriksen, Robert Englund, Robert Patrick and
Mika Boorem. In the first half of 2010, they
were enlisted by fellow filmmakers Sonic and Andrew
Hobson to produce their short films "Awake" and "I'm
Dating the Anti-Christ".
Now in the autumn of 2010, Expressway Productions
has turned its sights toward yet another expansion.
Always moving, never resting, in the true
entrepreneurial spirit that has defined them in this
industry. Expressway
Productions has invested in two ventures aimed at
strengthening the local film industry, both studio
and independent.
The first of which fills a glaring void in
Philadelphia's film scene. A much needed
upgrade in an often overlooked aspect of production
support. Expressway Productions presents
Expendables Shop. A full service
production supply retailer. The local market
for such items is grossly overpriced and
manipulated. The local revenue that could be
generated from these sales is often outsourced to
New York due to the inflated prices set by equipment
rental houses in the area. However it is hard
to blame them. For a long time, they were the
only show in town and were servicing a captive
audience. The goal of expendables Shop is
simple; to provide quality products at a value that
can be considered competitive, not just in this
area, but everywhere. Most importantly though,
we are providing a service that will make filmmaking
in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas more
affordable, convenient and efficient. You can

The
latest development in Expressway's Growth and a
collaboration with fellow filmmaker, Zac Rubino, is
the foundation of Expressway Grip. Expressway
Productions and Mr. Rubino have co-founded this
company to provide quality equipment and service to
independent productions and filmmakers in the area,
again making production in Philadelphia all that
much more affordable and convenient. The
equipment is three tons of all brand new American
equipment; ready to rent at more than affordable
prices. As an additional service, Expressway
Grip can offer skilled and reliable technicians, to
operate the equipment. Expressway's Crews are
the most skilled and talented production crew in the
area. They are available for hire at any
position should you need them.
The
website is currently under construction, but feel
free to visit the site for additional contact
information and details.
